Happy Willoford began working in this Pierce Oil station in Rixey,
Arkansas in 1936 when he was 16 years old. He eventually bought the business
and operated it for many years. He boasted of having the first indoor bathroom
between Little Rock and Sercy. During World War II, Happy was a favorite with
the children of Rixey because, in spite of rationing, he could get his hands on
chocolate bars. In the mid 70's, the interstate went in about two miles to the west.
His business dropped by 25% the first year. The decline continued and by
the end of the decade, it was all over for Happy. For all practical purposes,
the town of Rixey is gone as well.
