I found this one in Louisiana between Ville Platte and Opelousas. While photographing
the building I got the feeling that Joubert might still be living there. Perhaps when
I-49 was completed and his business started to drop off he began to stay upstairs each
morning for a second cup of coffee.
As time passed Joubert may have developed the habit of waiting for the first customer to call
before coming down to open the store. I was tempted to climb the rickety wooden steps and knock
at the door or maybe just peek behind the blower curtains. I regret that I did not.
